If you want to extend the display of your M1/M2 iPad to a larger monitor, you may need to use an HDMI to USB Type-C hub. However, the iPadOS for M1/M2 will detect if there is a USB 3.0 signal to decide whether to transfer the video signal to the external screen.
Some hubs will identify that they have USB 3.0 signals, while others will not. HiDock supports USB 3.0, but it is not identified on its Hub IC. Instead, it bypasses the USB 3.0 signal via another lane.
To use HiDock to extend the display, you will need to plug in a USB 3.0 disk to let the iPadOS know that there is a USB 3.0 signal, so the display will work correctly.
